The Real Jolene Sues Dolly Parton For Royalties & Defamation

Jolene Beauregard of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is claiming that she is the real Jolene made famous in the iconic Dolly Parton song. In a lawsuit filed in a Tennessee court, Beauregard claims that she is the subject of the 1973 Parton song that went on to sell millions of copies. The real Jolene claims that her reputation has been harmed and is demanding $373 Million for damages and back royalties.

Basically Beauregard claims that the song puts her in a bad light and she has endured harassment and death threats over the years. With Dolly’s new popularity and her current status as an International treasure, the harassment has increased. “Wherever I go, People spit on me, they throw garbage at me and call me home wrecker and man stealer. Just the other day Miley Cyrus threw a rotten head of cabbage at me. It is ridiculous.”

As has been noted, Jolene was inspired by a red-headed bank clerk who flirted with Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, at his local bank branch around the time they were newly married. The song tells of the narrator confronting Jolene, a stunningly beautiful woman, who she worries will steal away her lover/husband. Throughout the song, the narrator implores Jolene “please don’t take him just because you can.”

Beauregard told Madhouse News, “Yes I worked at a bank when I was younger and I remember smiling at Parton’s husband. However, I had no intention of stealing her man, I could get any man I wanted. I was quite the bee’s knees when I was a young girl. Obviously life has had its way with me but back then I was cute in the face and had beautiful flowing red hair. My bosom would rival Dolly’s and my caboose would stop traffic.”

Jolene continued, “So not only was my reputation harmed but basically I co wrote that song. I demand a co writing credit and back royalties. That song was covered by everyone and now I hear Beyonce is going to cover it. I want in on that for sure. This Jolene song has ruined my life, took my looks and I want to be reimbursed. I should look like Dolly.”

Beauregard’s lawyer stated, “Jolene suffered depression over the backlash of the song. She became estranged from her family, homeless and drug addicted. A drunk and despondent Jolene was once arrested at Dollywood for defecating in the flume ride. She was removed from the park and tasered. As she was being physically dragged from the park, she was heard screaming “I am Jolene dammit, this park should be mine”. Dolly Parton remarked, “That will teach you to flirt with another woman’s man.”
