Rare Frank Zappa Folk Album Sells For $2.7 Million

A very rare Frank Zappa Folk album made history today as the most expensive album of all time. The album sold for $2.7 Million breaking the previous record set by the one off copy of The Wu Tang Clan album. At this time There are only 3 known copies of the album in existence and this copy belonged to Frank Zappa personally. 

Frank Zappa was known for his experimental avant-garde music. Later he was known for his jazz influenced guitar instrumentals and his hilarious and sometimes obscene or offensive lyrics. He was never known for his folk music. 

The album titled “Folk Yerbouti” by Peter, Paul & Zappa was recorded Easter weekend 1967 in New York City. At this point Zappa was living in New York. Also, His band, The Mothers of Invention had a residency at The Garrick Theater.

The famous folk trio, Peter, Paul & Mary were on a break as Mary had run off and joined the Manson family in California. Meanwhile Peter and Paul were left alone in New York City. In any event, The pair caught Zappa’s show at The Garrick and were blown away. They got together and recorded the album that weekend while they ate Ham, hard boiled eggs and chocolate bunnies. The album contains originals, traditional songs and covers.

The Peter, Paul & Zappa folk trio recorded 10 songs and made just 3 copies of the album. Each of the members received a copy. Peter’s copy is in the library of congress. Paul’s copy is in his basement collecting dust but it is worthless snce it is signed by Paul. Frank’s copy was found in the archives by his dim witted son Ahmet. “I will sell anything that is not nailed down” said Ahmet. “For sure I never imagined I would get so much money for this piece of crap. I sure hope Moon and Dweezil don’t hear about this. I don’t want to have to hare the money with them.”

The album was purchased at auction for a cool $2.7 Million by Ed Sheeran. “I am a big Peter, Paul & Mary fan” said Sheeran. “I like Frank Zappa too, but Puff the Magic Dragon is my favorite song ever.”
