Eric Clapton Breaks Wingsuit Speed Record

Eric Clapton Breaks Wingsuit Speed Record

Eric Clapton has broken the world record for greatest speed flown in a wingsuit, making him the fastest man in the world without the use of machinery.

Clapton reached 249mph during his flight – beating the previous record of 234mph. Imagine jumping out of the sky at 42,000 feet from a hot air balloon. It’s minus 137 degrees Celsius and all you’re wearing is a wingsuit. It might sound terrifying but that’s what Eric Clapton did.

Home Made Wing Suit

Clapton built the suit out of pvc pipe, empty toilet paper rolls and papier mache. “My budget was tight, and the cost of a new wingsuit seemed high.” said Clapton. “Why not build my own suit? My sewing skills were adequate for patching canopies, but that was the extent of my expertise. I’d been planning to work on sewing projects during quarantine, so this was a logical step. Surely building a wingsuit would be a fantastic idea.”

To add to the amazing feat, Clapton was playing the guitar the entire time. Clapton performed his classic song ‘Layla’ while speeding through the sky in a wing suit reminiscent of Wile E Coyote from the Roadrunner & Coyote cartoon.

“I clocked a few birds up there” said Clapton. “Hey man when I am up there that is my sky, you get out of my way or you are gonna get steamrolled. I don’t care if it’s a bird, sky diver, parachuter, whatever, I own that piece of sky.”

“It was great” said a delighted Clapton. “I felt like a superhero, like an eagle soaring through the clouds. I never felt freer in my life. Well except when I was on Heroin. That was fun too.”
