SNL Retroactively Fires Eddie Murphy

Saturday Night Live” has fired Eddie Murphy, just 35 years after videos of the comedian making bigoted and homophobic comments came to light. This takes place just 2 days after the SNL firing of newcomer Shane Gillis.

Murphy of course is one of the funniest comedians of all time and was a SNL cast member from 1980-1984.

“After talking with Eddie Murphy, we have decided that he will not be joining ‘SNL’,” Lorne Michaels said in a statement to Madhouse. “We want ‘SNL’ to be completely void of any comedy.  We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past 35 years. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard.”

Lorne Michaels is referring to Murphy’s 1983 Stand Up Special ‘Delirious’, that was seen by 357 million people and is one of the highest grossing comedy special of all time. During ‘Delirious’, Murphy makes fun of everyone and everything.

Following news of his ouster, Murphy wrote on Twitter, “Wait a minute, I haven’t been on SNL for 35 years. What am I being fired from?”

When asked if Murphy will still be hosting the show in December, Michaels told Madhouse, “Yes he will still be hosting but after the show airs and we generate a lot of income and ratings, I will then berate Murphy and fire him retroactively again.”
