Pantera To Host American Idol Type Contest to Find New Band Members

Pantera surviving members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown will star in a new singing competition TV show on FOX called “Pantera Idol”. The show will audition Guitarists and Drummers to become members of the band Pantera. The winners receive a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Roni. They will also join the band on the upcoming world tour.

The Heavy Metal world was shaken to the core after Pantera announced it would do a reunion tour. Then rumor after rumor surfaced concerning who would replace Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul in the band. First it was Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante. Then it was Tony Iommi and Alex Van Halen. Other musicians approached included Ringo Starr, Slash, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. Pantera also considered Dave Grohl, Richard Christy, Nita Strauss, Jimmy Page, Angus Young, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and even that guy in Slayer with the bad tribal tattoos.

“Fans were going crazy” said Anselmo. “I figured why the heck not do it like American Idol. If it’s good enough for Queen and Adam Lambert, it’s good enough for us. Plus this way all the heavy lifting is done by others and we don’t have to sit through all the crappy musicians. We can show up have a coffee, chat with Paula Abdul and then insult a few people and go home. An even bigger plus is we get paid to do it.”

Pantera Idol will be a twelve week process and will work the same way as American Idol. Anselmo and Brown will be judges and then each week a new guest judge will appear. Judges will include Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Geddy Lee, Ozzy Osbourne and Demi Lovato. Musicians will be weeded out weekly until the finale when one guitarist and one drummer stand alone.

The Pantera Idol host will be none other than Van Halen front man David Lee Roth. Roth told Madhouse News, “I am psyched man, I was made for this. Bo zee bo zee bop. The codpieces, boas, top hats and spandex are coming out of the closet for this one. If this show does well, you can expect to see a Van Halen Idol next year!”
