Man Crashes Car While Air Drumming “Tom Sawyer” By Rush

Tom Sawyer by Rush is blamed for car crash. A car went airborne and crashed into the second story of a house in Akron Ohio. The driver of the vehicle told authorities he was air drumming to the song “Tom Sawyer” by Rush and lost control of the vehicle. Next thing he knew he was in the second story bedroom of a stranger.

The front of an Akron house was heavily damaged after a Chrysler traveled through the air and into the second story of a home on Sycamore Avenue, according to officers at the scene. Just before 3 a.m., a 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed on Sycamore Avenue from Westgate when it hit a utility pole, a tree, seven parked cars, a fire hydrant and three mailboxes before going airborne.

The driver of the vehicle, Chris Connelly, 37, told authorities, “I was driving home from my job at the asbestos factory when my favorite song, Tom Sawyer by Rush came on the radio. Of course I had to start air drumming. Some people are air guitarists or sing along, but for Rush you have to air drum. Right around the 2:30 mark of the song some really tasty drum licks come in and I got a little carried away. I let go of the wheel to finish my solo and the next thing I know I am in some stranger’s bedroom. It was sick.”

The homeowner Brian Plourde and his family were home asleep at the time of the crash. Miraculously no one was injured. Plourde told Madhouse News, “I was sound asleep dreaming of eating donuts and hot dogs in a tunnel when I heard an incredibly loud crash. It sounded like a massive explosion. At this point I woke up to the sound of “Tom Sawyer” by Rush blasting from a vehicle that was now in my bedroom. It took awhile for my mind to comprehend what was going on. The driver said What’s up Dude. He was still air drumming until the song ended.”

Neil Peart’s Fault

Police charged Connelly with reckless driving and with being a douche. Connelly insisted that the band Rush were to blame for the crash. “This is Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and especially Neil Peart’s fault. How can I be expected not to air drum when a song is that good. It’s incomprehensible to me. The band members can expect a call from my lawyer.”

Sources tell us that Connelly once crashed his vehicle into a police car. This incident took place in 2015 and occurred once again while air drumming. “Come on man” said Connelly. “In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins was playing. Everyone has to air drum to that. Even Mike Tyson air drums to that song. Why was a cop car stopped on the side of the road anyway.” At that time, the courts ordered Connelly to not listen to music for 7 years while driving and no air drumming. The radio in his car was removed. It seems like more drastic measures will have to be taken to control this nuisance.
