John Mellencamp To Star in Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein

Film maker Guillermo Del Toro announced today that John Mellencamp will play the monster in his adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The film will air on Netflix with an all-star cast. “The minute I saw Mellencamp’s head I knew I found my Monster” said Del Toro.

Yes you read that correctly, The man who gave us “Jack & Diane” is now ready to step into the legendary shoes of Frankenstein’s monster. Hold on to your musical notes, folks, because this is going to be a toe-tappin’, head-bangin’, monster-mashin’ good time.

Del Toro continued, “I’m doing Frankenstein. We’re working on it. We start shooting in February, and it’s a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago. Now I’m brave or crazy enough or something, and we’re gonna tackle it. It’s Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and John Mellencamp as The Monster.”

“John Mellencamp has a raw, authentic energy that I believe will bring a unique perspective to the character,” the acclaimed director explained. “Plus, his experience in writing and performing heartland rock anthems makes him the perfect choice to bring an emotional depth to the monster’s journey. But forget about that, do you see the size of the guy’s head? It is an enormous melon. No wonder they call him melon head. In addition to being giant, his dome is square and bulbous at the same time. His cranium is sublime. We won’t need to spend any money on makeup. Just throw a little green on him, a scar and some neck bolts. $40 tops from Spirit Halloween store.”

Rock Star

Del Toro’s Frankenstein will have a different take on the Mary Shelley classic. This time it will take place in the 1970s. Dr Frankenstein will be a mad scientist who creates the monster and brings it to life. The new twist will have the monster come to New York City and become a rockstar. After a poor drunken performance, the crowd boos and the monster goes on a rampage wreaking havoc in Times Square. Edgar Winter will make a cameo as part of the Monster’s backup band and Angus Young will play the lab assistant, Igor.

Mellencamp commented, “I am so psyched to play this role. And I don’t even care that Guillermo only hired me because of my misshapen head. There are times I need help lifting my giant cranium off the pillow in the morning. Finally this humongous noggin comes in handy. I have been really getting into the part. At home I only grunt and do not speak.”
