Guitar legend Jimmy Page mistook Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett for a street person and handed him $5.

The Led Zeppelin guitarist ran into Hammett on a street corner in London. Hammett ran up to Page to say hello and to ask for a photo together. Jimmy obliged as he always does but was completely unaware the request came from another rock star. Page believed the man to be a street person and handed Kirk $5.

“I thought he was joking” said Hammett. “After we took the photo, We started chatting. It was obvious he did not recognize me. He then crumpled up a $5 bill into my hand and told me to get something to eat and a bath. Jimmy then took off down the street and into an awaiting limo. I stashed the bill in my shirt. Five dollars is five dollars.”

Hammett is a huge Page and Led Zeppelin fan. “Page is my guitar god” said Kirk. “He is the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place. It is heartbreaking to me that he doesn’t know who I am. I must have met him 20 times over the years. I thought we were good friends. We have taken photos together, jammed together and even broke together. For chrissakes, the man was at my house and met my family.”

“Kurt Hammock” asked Page. “I never heard of him. He says we met 20 times, well that is news to me. I just assumed he was a street person down on his luck. He smelled like wide open a$$. I gave him a five spot to get some food and maybe take a bath or something.”

“This kind of stuff happens to me all the time” said Page. “I met that guy from KISS and thought he was a nice old jewish lady from America. During the 1980s with all those hair bands, they all looked like chicks, you had to be very careful. I mistook that Bon Jovi tosser with that actress from the Halloween movies. Then I mistook that Twisted Sister tosser with that horse faced actress from Sex and the City.”
