Ginger Baker Dies

Legendary drummer Ginger Baker has died at the age of 80.

Ginger redefined the role and sound of rock drumming. Mr. Baker brought a new level of artistry to his instrument, and he was the first rock drummer to be prominently featured as a soloist and to become a star in his own right. Eric Clapton praised him as “a fully formed musician” whose “musical capabilities are the full spectrum.”

Ginger led a colorful life. Mr. Baker, who by his own count quit heroin 29 times, was candid about his drug and alcohol abuse in his autobiography “HellRaiser”.

Ginger was a love able old grouch. Often coming to blows with his bandmates and journalists. Ginger was seen in the documentary “Beware of Mr Baker”, where he bopped the journalist over the nose with his cane.

Ginger was an incredibly influential drummer and will be missed. Ginger co-formed and played in “Cream”, “Blind Faith”, “Ginger Baker’s Air force” and many others.
