After years of delays and obstacles, a Marvin Gaye feature biopic will finally come to the big screen.

Ed Sheeran will play the Motown legend in the Martin Scorsese helmed ‘Sexual Healing’, which is slated to start filming in Detroit later this month. Dr. Dre will be producing the movie and he has secured rights to all of Gaye’s music. The Gaye family has given their full approval.

Ed Sheeran Was Born To Play Marvin Gaye

“Previous incarnations had pegged Jesse L Martin and Lenny Kravitz to play the lead role, but my man Ed Sheeran is the definite right choice” said Dr Dre. “He is perfect, he was born to play Marvin Gaye. Snoop and Eminem wanted the role but I had to check them. You ain’t no Marvin Gaye. Ed Sheeran is Marvin Gaye!”

Bern Nadette Stanis who played Thelma on ‘Good Times’ will play Gaye’s mother (Alberta Cooper Gay) and Ted Lange who portrayed Isaac Washington, the bartender on ‘The Love Boat’ will play Gaye’s father (Marvin Gay Sr.). Snoop Dogg will play Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records.

Ed Sheeran told Madhouse News, “I really do believe I was born to play Marvin Gaye. I have been singing his songs in the bathtub since I was 2 years old. I may not look exactly like Gaye, but I feel I have his soul, his energy and I can bring that to life on the big screen. Dr Dre originally wanted me to wear black face, but I don’t think that’s a good idea right now. I feel I look enough like Gaye to pull it off. I have grown a beard and I will wear that little beanie that Marvin always wore.”

    1. I hope it is a joke too! Jessie Martin looks more like him. I love Ed’s voice, he can really sing, but play Marvin? No way!

  1. Doesn’t bother me at all , because Black Americans have played some White artists . Talent’s what it is all about .Can’t wait to see the movie . Personally, I don’t hate others . I may not like or agree with certain things but I Don hate . Bring it !

    1. Black people have NEVER APLAYED A REAL LIVE WHITE PERSON on any move or television show. They may have played characters that were originally written to be played by a white, but NEVER A BLACK FACE HAS EVER PLAYED A WHITE. On the other hand, you people have put your white faces on many of our real life black people. LETS START WITH ANCIENT EGYPTIANS!

        1. That’s not even a real person firSt of all, second how can you say what race a mythical creature is?

  2. Marvin Gaye is a black man, so how can Ed Sheeran be picked to play Marvin. Just because he is a singer that should not be used to look pass or eliminate the many black talented men who can also be chosen.

    1. You guys are so incredibly dumb and bigoted and just misinformed entirely it hurts my soul and worries me about the future of humanity. It says in the banner “comedy magazine”. Good lord.

  3. Omg! Do you people not understand parody? Of course it’s not real, unbelievable people can have jobs, pay bills and be so unbelievably gullible😆😆😆😆

  4. How are you going to cast a Caucasian man to play a black man are you people crazy??? This is a plot to blatantly eliminate the “Black man legacy” In everything! Enough is enough! It should have been Jessie L Martin!!!

  5. With tha present state of thangz in this country/ corporation, I would not be surprised if this wuz actually happenin’..
    Thankfully it iz NOT!

  6. Honestly, this is a good thing . Lets see what happens, it might not be what you think. Plus I loves Marvin Gaye and Ed Sherren. Its different, but so are we all. If men can become women avisa versa, and Rachel Donzel can be black, then Ed can play the character of Marvin Gaye

  7. I don’t agree with the lead actor . I also been singing his songs since knee high. I couldn’t pull it off. I resemble him more than the lead actor.
Dr.Dre you would be better off make a Beatle’s movie with Ed Sheeran.

  8. If this is true I done I don’t understand why black people keep putting themselves down this has got to be a joke there no way this is true if it is Marvin is rolling over in his grave

  9. Dr. Dre, are you kidding, to get reactions? I’m curious – how many artists did you ask? When doing a Biopic, isn’t everything relational, including skin color? I am not prejudice, just very disappointed. I see the other characters you chose are People of Color.
I know of a producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, vocal coach, platinum producer,
very talented man, and with many other talents, who would be great, as Marvin Gaye – Jaee Logan… I wish you’d check him out. Naming just a few, Jaee has sung, “Amazing”, by Luther Vandross and “These Three Words”, by Stevie Wonder. I’m just thinking, if a joke, then HaHa on us 😂. Still check out Jaee; who knows, you may be happy you were introduced to him.

  10. Dr Dre what if you were portrayed by a white man. You people don’t realize Marvin is a legend a black legend.

  11. This is disrespectful on so many layers! N to think I respected dre!Thats jus like me playing Dolly Parton it will be boycotted smdh our world🤔

  12. Good grief people this is a JOKE. Look at the title of the magazine it literally says “Rock and Roll COMEDY” 🤦‍♂️
