Bicycle Ride w Dad Inspires 5 Yo Billie Eilish To Write Her First Song

On This Day in 2006: Following a long ride on the back of her father’s bicycle, A 5 year old Billie Eilish is inspired to write her first song. The song entitled, “If You Ain’t The Lead Dog, The View is Always The Same” relates the day’s journey.

Billie relates the story to Madhouse News, “It was a pivotal moment in my life. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a warm October day, overcast with a slight breeze. I just got a new bike and I wanted to ride it myself. My dad said I was not ready and I had to ride on the back of his. It was a long sweaty ride. My dad is a lovely man, but he was a dirty hippie and did not have the best hygiene.”

Shotgun

Eilish continues, “I was a happy go lucky kid until that day. After that ride from hell though, I was changed forever. My world view was changed forever. From that day forward I vowed I would never play the second fiddle. To this day I cannot even sit in the backseat of a car. I always ride shotgun.”

When Billie finally returned home she got to work writing songs. “I needed to express myself” said Billie. “There must be a way for me to work out some of this rage. I realize now I was traumatized. Doctors later diagnosed me with PTSD from the event. It was my Viet Nam. After this, I turned from a pink pigtailed little girl into a dark goth chick.”

“I wrote that first song is 30 minutes. I accompanied myself on Ukulele. It wasn’t the best song, but it’s still better than 90% of the trash produced today. And I was 5. I wrote a second song that day. It was my ‘B side’ if you will. It was titled, ‘Crack Kills’”.

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell III was born December 18, 2001. Based on her given name, we don’t need to tell you that she was born and raised in Los Angeles, California by hippie parents. Billie went onto become one of  the successful artists of her time. She owes it all to that sweaty, smelly, uncomfortable, awkward bicycle ride.
