Alice Cooper Attacked & Squeezed By Snake On Stage: Saved By Fans

Rocker Alice Cooper had a close call as his snake co star snapped and attempted to squeeze the life out of Alice. Cooper was performing at a charity event when his Boa Constrictor, “Shed Bundy” went off script. The snake wrapped itself around Alice and started squeezing and constricting. Quick thinking fans jumped on stage and eventually freed Alice from the coils and jaws of death.

Alice Cooper has long been connected with snakes. A boa constrictor named Kachina had become the fans’ favorite rock reptile as early as 1972, when she became the cover girl for Alice’s ‘Killer’ album. Then there was Chichita, who somehow escaped down a toilet and made her bid for freedom via the New York sewer system. Some say Chichita grew to 50 feet long and still roams the NYC sewer system living on rats, dogs and homeless.

Yvonne

Chichita was replaced by Yvonne, a 12-foot-long boa who went astray in a Knoxville, Tennessee hotel. “I put her in the bathtub overnight as she loved to swim, but in the morning she had gone down the toilet,” Alice recalled. “She eventually emerged two weeks later in a different bathroom, having survived on sewer rats in the plumbing.” The occupant of the room in which Yvonne surfaced was Charley Pride, the country music star. Yvonne emerged through Pride’s toilet and bit him on the nuts as he was doing his business.

Alice’s favorite snake of all was Julius Squeezer who died tragically in 1977. Apparently Julius was given a life rat for breakfast. However, the rat turned the tables and bit Julius killing the snake dead. Alice Cooper was dismayed at the turn of events, “It was bit like being bit on by your Wheaties,” he mused.

Since then finding good snakes has been challenging. Over the years there was Cobra Winfrey, Count Strangula and Christopher Lee. The most recent snake was named “Shed Bundy” and was said to have a bad attitude. The snake apparently did not like having second billing. His handler claimed that Shed wanted the act to be called “Shed Bundy & Alice Cooper” or at the very least, “Alice Cooper featuring Shed Bundy”. This request was denied.

Alice Cooper Vs Snake

The snake felt the time was right to make his move. Alice was performing in Arizona at a charity event for under privileged children. Alice was on stage and it was time to bring out the snake. As they were performing the song “Muscle of Love”, the snake started squeezing harder and harder. Alice thought the snake was playing around but eventually he found himself completely trapped.

The children attending the event were horrified but two quick thinking fans realized Alice was in trouble. Stephen Bello and J. Edgar Hussey leaped onto the stage and grabbed the snake. After a 20-minute tug-of-war, the two fans were finally able to free Alice who incredibly emerged from the asphyxiating ordeal with only minor injuries. Alice thanked the fans and continued on with the show.
