Billy Joel Stops Performing ‘Big Shot’ to Protest Violence

Piano Man Billy Joel has declared that he will no longer sing his hit song ‘Big Shot’. This is his way of protesting violence or something. Joel made the brave decision just days after Pat Benatar announced she would not perform her song “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”.

Joel made the announcement during his recent concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Billy told the crowd, “This is normally the part of the show where I play ‘Big Shot’. But I will no longer perform that song until there is an end to all violence in the world. I will now play ‘She’s Always a Woman’ but wait I can’t play that either because I am not a biologist. What the heck I will just play Piano Man again.”

Crime dropped immediately after Pat Benatar stopped performing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”. The bureau of crime and the city mayors are hoping the crime rates drop even lower now that Billy Joel stops playing ‘Big Shot’. Chicago Mayor whats her name stated, “If only we could get Bon Jovi to stop performing ‘Shot Through The Heart’. Actually it would be even better if we could get Bon Jovi to stop performing altogether.”

Big Shot” was the second hit single from Billy Joel’s 1978 album 52nd Street. It would soon become his second top-twenty hit of 1979, peaking at #14. Joel stated that the song was written about Bianca Jagger and one crazy night at Studio 54. Billy told Howard Stern that he witnessed a coke fueled Bianca drop a deuce on the studio 54 dance floor and continue dancing.

At a post concert press conference, the news media were gushing over Joel’s bold and courageous move. Madhouse News correspondent Hugh Janus asked Joel if this is really going to impact violence or just an empty gesture. Joel responded, “Of course it is an empty gesture. The song isn’t even about violence at all. It is about a girl in the 1970s that is acting like a Big Shot. How would it possibly help if I stop playing this one stupid song? Ha, but a lot of people are so stupid that I will get credit for being caring. I need some points after I made that creep Cuomo godfather to my kid. Boy that was some bad judgement on my part.”
