The Who’s drummer Keith Moon surely was pleased with recent events. Moon’s granddaughter Soleil married Roger Daltrey’s grandson Basil. The couple were married at the site of the infamous Who’s Next Monolith. The giant concrete structure appeared on the 1971 Who Album, Who’s Next.

Rock Royalty

It was a Rock Royalty wedding. The grandchildren of two rock legends were getting hitched. So it makes sense that the couple picked a location befitting such an event. The giant concrete monolith from the Who’s Next album cover made the perfect setting for a Who family nuptials.

Illegitimate children and grandchildren were flown in from all over the world for the momentous event. Waitresses, groupies, fans and the proverbial who’s who of Rock Stars were in attendance. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Paul McCartney, Ozzy, Ringo, Joe Walsh, Robert Plant, Sting, Alice Cooper, Cardi B, Adele and of course Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend all showed up in their Sunday best.

Who’s Next

“Who’s Next” is the fifth studio album released by The Who on August 14, 1971. It was an instant classic and contained some of rock’s biggest anthems, “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Baba O’Riley”. The front cover of the album is a photograph by Ethan Russell. Russell explains that it was taken at Easington Colliery, of the band apparently having just urinated on a large monolith protruding from a slag heap. Americans have no idea what any of that means but do know that it is a cool album cover. A fun fact is that only Townshend actually peed on the wall. The others could not perform on cue so Pete made all four stains on the wall. “I had just finished an entire six pack of beer, so I was up for the task at hand” said Townshend.

The Monolith

The wedding was a lovely ceremony officiated by Judas Priest singer Rob Halford. The monolith was used as the altar. Halford explained that it is also referred to as a “Chuppah” in other faiths. Afterwards, tents were set up for a nice catered reception. The food and wine flowed. Uncle Pete and Grandpa Roger gave a touching toast and then proceeded to pee on the giant concrete structure to recreate the album cover. “Here’s to Soleil and Basil” giggle Roger and Pete. “And of course here’s to Keith as they began peeing. Who’s Next?”

The audience broke into hysterics. The bride shocked and delighted the crowd as she yelled Me and began urinating on the monolith. Basil followed suit and also let the wee fly. The wedding party and guests then all took turns marking the concrete. After the event, the monolith was airlifted to the new couple’s property where it will grace their backyard.
