Dave Coulier Sues Alanis Morissette: Demands Credit For You Oughta Know

Actor and Comedian Dave Coulier is suing musician Alanis Morissette. Coulier claims that he was the inspiration for Morissette’s hit song “You Oughta Know”. Legal documents claim that Dave is seeking a co-writing song credit and back royalties of $7.5 Million.

Dave Coulier vs Alanis Morissette

“You Oughta Know” is the 1995 hit song that appeared on Morissette’s iconic album, “Jagged Little Pill”. The song and album sold over 7 billion copies and made Alanis a household name. The scathing breakup anthem is about a callous douche who broke Alanis’s heart and drove her to do some crazy things.

Dave Coulier is an actor and stand up comedian best known for his role as Uncle Joey on the sappy sitcom “Full House”. Dave and Alanis met at a hockey game in 1992. A little known fact is that 83% of all Canadian relationships begin at a hockey game. Despite a sizable age gap (Alanis was born in June 1974; Dave was born in September 1959), the pair dated for two years before calling it quits.

Alanis has often stated that she will never reveal who the song is about. Morissette commented, “What kind of a douche would take credit for being the subject of that song? Have you ever listened to the lyrics? It is about a terrible, despicable creepy guy who took advantage of a young girl and left her broken. Then again it makes sense that I would write a song like that about someone who would take credit for a song like that.”

Mr. Duplicity

In the past Coulier has switched back and forth from denying and confirming that he is the subject of the song. However he is now declaring on the record, “I am Mr Duplicity. Yes, the song is about me and I am a big A-Hole. Now give me my $7.5 Million. If I wasn’t such a big jerk, Alanis would have never written that song. Therefore, I demand money and a songwriting credit.”

Coulier’s attorneys plan on calling John Stamos aka Uncle Jesse to testify on his behalf. Allegedly Stamos witnessed Morissette performing a certain act on Coulier in a theater. Stamos confirmed, “We were watching Basic Instinct in a movie theater when she made her move.” Bob Saget also stated in the past that he was at the dinner when Alanis called Coulier 35 times before dessert. Things are about to get interesting. Stay tuned.
