Aug 31, 2018 – Hopewell, NJ  - If your idea of country music skews towards the Hank Williams side of the dial then you missed a fantastic show last night. Wayne “The Train” Hancock and friends rolled into town to provide enough foot stompin’, honky-tonkin’ tunes to transport us from the sleepy tranquility of Hopewell to the grittiest road house this side of Texas.

Two guitar strings and two hours later it was clear, fans appreciated Hancock’s straight ahead no-nonsense licks on classics such as “That’s What Daddy Wants,” “2-String Boogie,” to Buck Owens’ “Honky Tonk Man” and Merle Travis’ “Divorce Me C.O.D.”

Folks shouted requests through much of the set and Hancock mostly obliged, unless it was “from THAT side of the set list.”

The band solidly backed Hancock on stand-up bass, steel and electric guitars. No percussion necessary as the beat was easily kept through Hancock’s punchy strumming style despite having to stop to re-string his guitar and take a cigarette break mid-set. The band picked up right where he left off with a silky-smooth rendition of “Sleep Walk” which was utterly dreamy thanks in no small part to Rose Sinclair, who was recently selected “Steel Guitar Player of The Year.”

In a world where the lines between country and pop music has blurred to the point where they are indistinguishable it’s refreshing to have artists such as Wayne Hancock keep the western swing and rockabilly embers burning. The band continues to tour across the country delivering a much-needed respite from bland radio waves most Americans are assaulted with. For a real slice of good ol’ Americana check them out!
