Graham Nash

Happy Birthday

Graham William Nash
February 2, 1942
Blackpool, England

Graham Nash has been inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, I believe 17 times for all of the great bands he has been in. Actually, it's only 2 but hey you are not in the Hall of Fame at all.

The man sings like an angel, and we first heard of Nash with the band The Hollies. Who could forget his beautiful tenor voice singing those swinging sixties British Invasion hits "Carrie Ann" and "Bus Stop".

Graham left The Hollies to join "Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young" in 1968. What a coincidence, they needed a Nash and he was the man.

"CSN&Y" was a turbulent band and these were turbulent times. They were one of the first supergroups, and unquestionably one of the greatest harmony bands of all time. The band played one of their first gigs at Woodstock in front of half a million hippies.
These guys tried every possible configuration over the years, and everyone of them sounded great. Crosby, Stills & Nash, Crosby & Nash, Crosby & Stills, Stills & Nash. You name it they tried it.

Nash wrote some of the band's most successful hits: "Marakesh Express", "Teach Your Children", "Just a Song Before I Go", "Wasted on the Way", "Immigration Man" and of course "Our House" which he wrote about his house in Lauren Canyon and his relationship with Joni Mitchell.

What a time it was. Living in Laurel Canyon, playing music and making beautiful harmonies. Everyone came to Laurel Canyon in the 1960's to hang with these guys. It was a big party.

Nash was the voice of a generation and he was the glue that kept these other maniacs in the band together. It was a turbulent and fragile relationship. Eventually it was too much for even Graham, as Crosby is a big PITA. Who knows, hopefully the boys will get it together and reunite again. In the meantime you can catch Graham solo.

Thanks for the music and Happy Birthday Graham Nash!
